Eszena Buenaventuraren kontakizun batean oinarritzen da, San Frantziskoren lehen biografoa. Oso gaixorik zegoen eta musika entzuteko gogoa sentitu zuen, baina ez zegoen zertan atsegin hartu. Gau batean, gogoetetan ari zela, doinu eder bat entzun zuen bat-batean, eta halako zoriona sentitu zuen non mundu hau utzi zuela iruditu baitzitzaion. Topaketa logela batean gertatzen da. San Frantzisko bere ohean etzanda dago, agertu berri zaion aingeruari begira. Aingeru hori bere musikaz gozatzera etorri da. Santuak esku-ahurrak zabalduta ditu, mirespenez. Ezkerreko leihoaren azpian dagoen idazmahai batek, ohearen gainean dauden apalategi batzuek eta izaera erlijiosoko hainbat objektuk (pinturak, gurutzeak, garezur bat...) osatzen dute dekorazioa. Zoladuraren gainean katu baten eta bi usoren irudiak ikus daitezke, santuaren sandaliez gain. Konposizioa ikuspegi zorrotz baten mende dago. Ihes-lerroek bat egiteko joera dute gelaren atzealdeko atetik haratago ikusten den paisaian.

La escena se basa en un relato de Buenaventura, primer biógrafo de San Francisco. Éste se hallaba muy enfermo y sintió deseos de escuchar música, pero no había con qué complacerle. Una noche estaba en meditación cuando oyó repentinamente una melodía bellísima y se sintió invadido de tal felicidad que le pareció haber dejado ya este mundo. El encuentro tiene lugar en un dormitorio. San Francisco se encuentra acostado en su camastro, con la mirada vuelta hacia el ángel que se le acaba de aparecer y que ha venido para confortarle con su música. El santo tiene las palmas de las manos extendidas en actitud de admiración. Un escritorio bajo la ventana de la izquierda, unas estanterías sobre el camastro, así como distintos objetos de carácter religioso (pinturas, crucifijos, una calavera...), completan la decoración. Sobre el pavimento pueden distinguirse las figuras de un gato y dos palomas, además de las sandalias del santo. La composición está sometida a una estricta perspectiva. Las líneas de fuga tienden a converger en el paisaje que se vislumbra más allá de la puerta del fondo de la estancia.

The scene is based on a story by Bonaventure, the first biographer of Saint Francis. Francis was very ill and longed to listen to music, but there was nothing to please him. One night he was meditating when he suddenly heard a beautiful melody and was filled with such happiness that he seemed to have already left this world. The encounter takes place in a bedroom. Saint Francis is lying on his bed, his gaze turned toward the angel who has just appeared to him and who has come to comfort him with his music. The saint has his palms extended in admiration. A desk under the window on the left, some shelves above the bed, and various religious objects (paintings, crucifixes, a skull, etc.) complete the decoration. On the floor, the figures of a cat and two doves can be seen, as well as the saint',s sandals. The composition is subject to strict perspective. The vanishing lines tend to converge in the landscape that can be seen beyond the door at the back of the room.
